This Ransomware arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
Installation
This Ransomware drops the following files:
- {Malware File Path}hive.bat → Deleted Afterwards
- {Malware File Path}shadow.bat → Deleted Afterwards
- {Drive Letter}:\{22 Random Characters}.key.hive
- {Drive Letter}:\HOW_TO_DECRYPT.txt
- {Encrypted Directory}\HOW_TO_DECRYPT.txt
It adds the following processes:
- cmd /c hive.bat>NUL 2>NUL
- cmd /c shadow.bat>NUL 2>NUL
- vssadmin.exe delete shadows /all /quiet
It executes then deletes itself afterward.
Process Termination
This Ransomware terminates the following services if found on the affected system:
- bmr
- sql
- oracle
- postgres
- redis
- vss
- backup
- sstp
It terminates the following processes if found running in the affected system's memory:
- mspub
- msdesktop

This Ransomware does the following:
- It accepts the following argument:
- -kill {process name} → Regular expression for the names of processes to be stopped.
- -no-clean → Skip clean disk space stage
- -skip {file name} → Regular expression for file names to be skipped
- -stop {service name} → Regular expression for stopping services
- -t {int} → Number of encryptor threads
- It encrypts fixed, removable and network drives

This Ransomware avoids encrypting files found in the following folders:

It appends the following extension to the file name of the encrypted files:
- {Random Characters}.hive
It drops the following file(s) as ransom note:
- {Drive Letter}:\HOW_TO_DECRYPT.txt
- {Encrypted Directory}\HOW_TO_DECRYPT.txt
It avoids encrypting files with the following file extensions:
- lnk
SOLUTION
Step 1
Before doing any scans, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.
Step 2
Note that not all files, folders, and registry keys and entries are installed on your computer during this malware's/spyware's/grayware's execution. This may be due to incomplete installation or other operating system conditions. If you do not find the same files/folders/registry information, please proceed to the next step.

Search and delete this file
