Microsoft Internet Explorer HTML Form Value Denial Of Service Vulnerability
Publish date: July 01, 2011
Severity: CRITICAL
CVE Identifier: CVE-2009-0341
Advisory Date: JUL 01, 2011
DESCRIPTION
Microsoft Internet Explorer is prone to a denial-of-service vulnerability because it fails to perform adequate boundary checks on user-supplied data.
Successfully exploiting this issue may allow an attacker to crash the browser, which will result in a denial-of-service condition.
Internet Explorer 7 on Windows XP SP3 is vulnerable; other versions running on different platforms may also be affected.
This issue was originally published as a buffer-overflow vulnerability that could result in remote code-execution. Further analysis and vendor reports suggest that this issue may only result in a denial-of-service condition due to stack exhaustion. This vulnerability is not exploitable to execute arbitrary code.
The shell32 module in Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 on Windows XP SP3 might allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long VALUE attribute in an INPUT element, possibly related to a stack consumption vulnerability.
