This Ransomware arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
File Infection
This Ransomware avoids infecting files that contain the following strings in their names:
- ReadMe.txt
- bootmgr
Other Details
This Ransomware does the following:
- It avoids encrypting files found in the following drive types:
- CD-ROM Drive
- RAM Disk
- It encrypts all files except for the following files having the following extensions:
- .exe
- .dll
- .lnk
- .sys
It accepts the following parameters:
- -mc → Execute normal functionality. Same as no command-line argument.
- -d → Encrypt a specific drive
- -ip → Encrypt network shared resource
- -p → Encrypt a specific folder/file
It does not proceed to its malicious routine if it detects that it is being debugged.
Ransomware Routine
This Ransomware appends the following extension to the file name of the encrypted files:
- .PLAY
It leaves text files that serve as ransom notes containing the following text:
- {All Available Drives}:\ReadMe.txt

Step 1
