Installation
This Trojan adds the following processes:
- powershell -Command "Set-MpPreference -DisableRealtimeMonitoring $true"
- powershell -Command "Set-MpPreference -MAPSReporting Disabled"
- powershell Set-MpPreference -DisableRealtimeMonitoring $true
- powershell Set-MpPreference -SubmitSamplesConsent 2

This Trojan does not have any information-stealing capability.
Other Details
This Trojan does the following:
- It checks if it's running with admin rights. If not, it relaunches itself using Powershell with admin rights.
- It disables real-time monitoring and cloud-based protection features of the Windows Defender antivirus.
- It disables Microsoft Antimalware Protection Service (MAPS) reporting.
- It sets the Windows Defender sample submission consent to "Never send."
It does not exploit any vulnerability.
SOLUTION
Step 1
Before doing any scans, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.
Step 2
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as Trojan.PS1.WINDEFDISABLER.RGN. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
