TECHNICAL DETAILS
Arrival Details
This Trojan arrives as an attachment to email messages spammed by other malware/grayware or malicious users.
Installation
This Trojan drops the following files:
- %System Root%\panel.swf
(Note: %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.)
NOTES:
The dropped embedded SWF file takes advantage of a vulnerability in certain versions of Adobe Flash Player to download another malicious file from the following URL:
- {BLOCKED}3.{BLOCKED}4.207.193
It saves the file it downloads as %User Temp%\SETUP_120917_W.EXE. Trend Micro detects the downloaded file as TROJ_DROPER.RE.
It then executes the downloaded file. As a result, routines of the downloaded file are then exhibited on the affected system.
