  OVERVIEW

This is a type of polymorphic DOS virus that infects EXE and COM files. It also modifies the system’s Master Boot Record. This virus appends its encrypted code at the end of the host files and modifies the header to point to its code. It also encrypts a part of the host file at a random offset. It does not contain any destructive payload.

Step 1

For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

Step 2

Identify files detected as RDA.7868x, then restore the Master Boot Record and delete malware files using Recovery Console

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as RDA.7868x. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
