Installation
This Ransomware adds the following processes:
- %Public%\Music\clear.bat
(Note: %Public% is the folder that serves as a repository of files or folders common to all users, which is usually C:\Users\Public in Windows Vista, 7, and 8.)
Other System Modifications
This Ransomware deletes the following files:
- %Public%\us.bat
- %Public%\rdp.bat
- %Public%\2008.exe
- %Public%\ManuxP.exe
(Note: %Public% is the folder that serves as a repository of files or folders common to all users, which is usually C:\Users\Public in Windows Vista, 7, and 8.)
It deletes the following folders:
- %System Root%\Users\Default\AppData
- %Public%\AppData
- %System Root%\Users\{User name}\AppData
- {Encrypted Drive}:\$Recycle.Bin

This Ransomware accesses the following websites to download files:

- http://{BLOCKED}.96.204.96/we_are_anon/end.exe
- http://{BLOCKED}.96.204.96/we_are_anon/clear.txt
It saves the files it downloads using the following names:
- %Public%\Music\video.mp4
- %Public%\Music\End.exe
- %Public%\Music\clear.bat

Other Details
This Ransomware does the following:
- Renames %System Root% to "Encrypted"
- Renames other encrypted drives to "ENCRYPTED"
(Note: %System Root% is the Windows root folder, where it usually is C:\ on all Windows operating system versions.)
Ransomware Routine
This Ransomware appends the following extension to the file name of the encrypted files:
- .Id-{10 random characters}.lucifer
It drops the following file(s) as ransom note:
- {Encrypted Directory}:\HELP_DECRYPT_YOUR_FILES.html
It leaves text files that serve as ransom notes containing the following text:
- {Encrypted Directory}:\HELP_DECRYPT_YOUR_FILES.txt
SOLUTION
Step 1
Trend Micro Predictive Machine Learning detects and blocks malware at the first sign of its existence, before it executes on your system. When enabled, your Trend Micro product detects this malware under the following machine learning name:
- Troj.Win32.TRX.XXPE50FFF041
Step 2
Before doing any scans, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.
Step 3
Note that not all files, folders, and registry keys and entries are installed on your computer during this malware's/spyware's/grayware's execution. This may be due to incomplete installation or other operating system conditions. If you do not find the same files/folders/registry information, please proceed to the next step.
Step 4
Search and delete these files
- %Public%\Music\video.mp4
- %Public%\Music\End.exe
- %Public%\Music\clear.bat
- {Encrypted Directory}:\HELP_DECRYPT_YOUR_FILES.txt
- {Encrypted Directory}:\HELP_DECRYPT_YOUR_FILES.html
Step 5
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as Ransom.Win64.LUCIFER.A. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
