This malware arrives via the following means:
- possibly deployed in a compromised system by remote malicious users
NOTES:
This is a malware consisting of different modules, each module having its own purpose. It may download any of the following modules into the system:
- rpchlpr.exe - may receive and execute arbitrary code from malicious remote user
- scsvc32.exe - may receive any of the following commands through named pipes:
- Read a file
- Download a file
- Delete a file
- List folders
- sxsapifeed.dll or wmupdsvc.dll - connects to the following C&Cs:
- http://flowershop22.{BLOCKED}b.com/shop.php
- http://flowershop22.{BLOCKED}b.com/flowers.php
- http://wildhorses.{BLOCKED}pace.info/hindex.php
- http://wildhorses.{BLOCKED}pace.info/horses.php
- http://www.{BLOCKED}music.com/music.php
- http://www.{BLOCKED}music.com/mymusic.php
- krbsec.dll - may perform any of the following:
- Load plugin DLLs
- List process IDs
- Keylogging
- rcnfsys.dll or ncnfloc.dll - listens for response packets and executes the received code
Most of the variants of REMSEC malware family use the entry function InitializeChangeNotify.
SOLUTION
Step 1
Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.
Step 2
Note that not all files, folders, and registry keys and entries are installed on your computer during this malware's/spyware's/grayware's execution. This may be due to incomplete installation or other operating system conditions. If you do not find the same files/folders/registry information, please proceed to the next step.
Step 3
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product and note files detected as BKDR_REMSEC.A
Step 4
Restart in Safe Mode
Step 5
Search and delete files detected as BKDR_REMSEC.A
Step 6
Restart in normal mode and scan your computer with your Trend Micro product for files detected as BKDR_REMSEC.A. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
