OVERVIEW
This malware which is downloaded by DYRE banking malware, has the capability to compose email messages in Microsoft Outlook with the UPATRE malware attached.

Installation
This worm drops and executes the following files:
- %User Temp%\{random file name}.bat
(Note: %User Temp% is the user's temporary folder, where it usually is C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP (32- and 64-bit); C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\Temp on Windows Vista (32- and 64-bit), Windows 7 (32- and 64-bit), Windows 8 (32- and 64-bit), Windows 8.1 (32- and 64-bit), Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2012.)
Propagation
This worm may also compose messages that can be part of its spamming routine.
Backdoor Routine
This worm connects to the following URL(s) to send and receive commands from a remote malicious user:
- http://{BLOCKED}7.{BLOCKED}7.71.173:1025
It posts the following information to its command and control (C&C) server:
- Outlook version
- Outlook platform
- Windows version
- Outlook email signature
Other Details
This worm deletes itself after execution.
NOTES:
This worm composes the spam email based on the parameters set in the C&C server.
The following parameters is requested by this worm in the C&C server to propagate:

- send_to_all
- additional_emails
- client_connection_id
- message_attach
- attach_type
- attach_name
- attach_data_base64
- subject
- content
- id_string
SOLUTION
Step 1
Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.
Step 2
Search and delete this file
- %User Temp%\{random filename}.bat
Step 3
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as WORM_MAILSPAM.XDP. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
