Installation
This Exploit creates the following folders:
- %All Users Profile%\update
(Note: %All Users Profile% is the common user's profile folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\All Users on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003, or C:\ProgramData on Windows Vista, 7, and 8. )
Download Routine
This Exploit connects to the following website(s) to download and execute a malicious file:
- http://{BLOCKED}c.org/data/file/news/thumb-403720952_ra2zF2Ew_32_600x399.jpg
It saves the files it downloads using the following names:
- %All Users Profile%\update\Windows-RT-KB2937636.dll - detected as Backdoor.Win32.SLUB.A
It then executes the downloaded files. As a result, malicious routines of the downloaded files are exhibited on the affected system.
Other Details
This Exploit does the following:
- It checks for the presence of the following processes in the affected system:
- V3Tray.exe
- AYAgent.aye
- navapsvc.exe
- ashServ.exe
- avgemc.exe
- bdagent.exe
- ZhuDongFangYu.exe
- If it finds any of the processes above it will connect to the following website to download a file:
- http://{BLOCKED}c.org/bbs/scrap_popup.php?category3=init
- The file downloaded is saved as:
- {malware directory}\scrap.txt
- However, as of this writing, the said site is inaccessible
It takes advantage of the following vulnerabilities:
SOLUTION
Step 1
Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.
Step 2
Note that not all files, folders, and registry keys and entries are installed on your computer during this malware's/spyware's/grayware's execution. This may be due to incomplete installation or other operating system conditions. If you do not find the same files/folders/registry information, please proceed to the next step.
Step 3
Search and delete these files
- %All Users Profile%\update\Windows-RT-KB2937636.dll
- {malware directory}\scrap.txt
Step 4
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as Trojan.Win32.CVE20151701.E.
