Information Theft

This spyware monitors the Internet Explorer (IE) activities of the affected system, specifically the address bar or title bar. It recreates a legitimate website with a spoofed login page if a user visits banking sites with the following strings in the address bar or title bar:

  • https://login.live.com/ppsecure
  • http://www.hotmail.com
  • https://login.live.com/ppsecure/post.srf
  • https://aapj.bb.com.br/aapj/includes/js/validatorApj.js
  • https://aapj.bb.com.br/aapj/loginpfe.bb
  • https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLoginAuth
  • https://www2.bancobrasil.com.br/aapf/login.jsp

NOTES:
It creates the following registries where it saves the stolen information:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
    login = "{stolen email address}"

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
    senha = "{stolen password}"

It then send passwords for the said sites to the following URL via HTTP post:
  • http://{BLOCKED}nerditerr.{BLOCKED}1.f1.k8.com.br/teste.php
  • http://{BLOCKED}nerditerr.{BLOCKED}1.f1.k8.com.br/teste2.php
  • http://{BLOCKED}nerditerr.{BLOCKED}1.f1.k8.com.br/teste3.php
It attempts to connect to the following URLs to download a file:
  • {random}.{BLOCKED}e.in/zpit.txt
Where {random} may be any of the following:
  • nuvens0103
  • kalmax0406
  • linuxy0709
  • pitak1012
  • mikey1315
  • dogmax1618
  • petrox1921
  • asbnew2224
  • orantax2527
  • kabix2831

As of this writing, however, the said sites are inaccessible.

Once the users log-in to an account, this malware can interact with the internet bank and transfer the money to a pre-configured account.

  SOLUTION

Minimum Scan Engine: 8.900

Step 1

For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

Step 2

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product and note files detected as TSPY_BANKER.PHT

Step 3

Restart in Safe Mode

Step 6

Restart in normal mode and scan your computer with your Trend Micro product for files detected as TSPY_BANKER.PHT. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
