NOTES:

This file infector may arrive on system as a compromised file. The said file is compiled using an infected Borland Delphi compiler.

Upon execution, it checks the Delphi installation on the system by checking the registry for the following entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Borland\Delphi\{version}.0

Where {version} is the version number of Delphi, which may be 4 to 7.

It also gets the system's root folder from the said registry in order to locate the Delphi installation folder. It then searches for the file SYSCONST.PAS, which it then modifies by appending its codes.

Using the Delphi compiler, bin\dcc32.exe, it compiles a new copy of SYSCONST.DCU using the modified SYSCONST.PAS. Trend Micro detects the newly compiled .DCU file as TROJ_INDUC.AA.

The original SYSCONST.DCU file is renamed to SYSCONST.BAK and the modified SYSCONST.PAS is then deleted. It also sets the same date and time of the new file as the original copy.

Once infected, all files compiled/linked using the compromised Delphi compiler will also be infected.

This file infector connects to the following possibly malicious URLs:
  • http://{BLOCKED}e.pointguard.co.kr/blist.php
  • http://www.{BLOCKED}oa.co.kr/count/incheck4.php

However, as of this writing, the said sites are inaccessible.

  SOLUTION

Minimum Scan Engine: 8.900

Step 1

Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.

Step 2

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to clean files detected as PE_INDUC.A. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files. Please check this Knowledge Base page for more information.

NOTES:
