Malicious .EXE File Poses as McDonald’s Free Supper Day Invite

 Analysis by: Nino Penoliar

This spammed email pretends to be from the popular fast food chain, McDonald's and invites users to join the fake 'The Free Supper Day' campaign. In the saidcampaign, five dishes from McDonald’s are supposedly given away for free on a particular day. Apart from the lack of any official McDonald's logos and images, the varying date and menu in every spammed email make it suspicious. In addition, it asks users to open a .ZIP file, which contains an executable file, Invitation_Card.exe. Trend Micro detects the executable file as TROJ_INJECTOR.VI.

Users are advised to be vigilant in opening emails even if these supposedlycome from known sources.
