Superbowl XLIX in Scam Mails

 Analysis by: Mary Isabel Segismundo

Superbowl scams and schemes are upon us once again as Superbowl XLIX nears. Our research shows a scam mail aimed at followers of this particular event. The spammed email pretends to sell tickets to the Patriots versus Seahawks game to be held in the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. In the spammed message, when a user clicks on [Check Ticket Availability], the user is led to a site that says the post is no longer available.

Superbowl scams and spam are not new. Trend Micro has been seeing these threats since 2007. We have always recommended to users be vigilant - never click on links in email especially if the email are not from a sender that you know. When purchasing stuff online, make sure to go to the correct and legitimate site where purchase of said item is authorized.
