Analysis byChloe Ordonia

Trendlabs engineers spotted a series of spam messages tailored to take advantage of the approaching holiday for lovers, Valentines' Day. The mail itself is made to resemble a newsletter that advertises a flower-delivery service specializing in delivery right on February 14. Upon scrolling down, users will see a large blank area at the bottom of the 'newsletter', which when highlighted reveals a hefty chunk of salad words, most probably an attempt to bypass mail filters.

While this particular spam doesn't necessarily lead to anything malicious, it may be the opening salvo in a huge barrage of spam for this year's Valentines' Day. We urge users to keep a close watch and be vigilant on the mail they receive and open. Don't click on links embedded in strange, unfamiliar mail, and never do anything unless verifying first.

Trend Micro™ Smart Protection Network™ protects users from this threat by blocking the spam mail samples, as well as any related malicious URLs and malware.
