This spyware does the following:

  • It monitors the Internet browser activities of the affected system, specifically the address bar or title bar. It recreates a legitimate website with a spoofed login page if a user visits banking sites with the following strings in the address bar or title bar:

    • EBC_EBC1961/EBC1961.ASP
    • https://online.citibank.com
    • https://wwws.ameritrade.com
    • https://www.schwab.com

  • It is usually registered by an executable component by creating the following autostart registry entry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\SessionManager\\AppCertDlls
    {value} = "{malware path and file name}.DLL"

  • Its primary purpose is to steal user information.
  • It contacts the following servers:
    • {BLOCKED}.{BLOCKED}.207.151
    • {BLOCKED}.{BLOCKED}.215.130
  • It then sends HTTP GET request to the said servers to get encrypted data, which when decrypted, contains HTML inject codes and target URLs which are mostly bank-related websites:
    • cgi-bin/options.cgi?user_id=3397599756&version_id=27&passphrase=fkjvhsdvlksdhvlsd&socks=0&version=27&crc=00000000
  • It then waits for the user to visit any target URL and injects codes to the said website. It does this by hooking certain APIs.
  • It is also capable of doing the following:
    • steals cookies
    • clears cookies
    • downloads and executes files from the server
    • reboots system
    • takes screenshots
