This Ransomware arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

Installation

This Ransomware drops the following files:

  • C:\Users\{Username}\killua.exe ← modified version of the malware
  • C:\Users\{Username}\stup.exe ← use to create autorun for killua.exe
  • C:\Users\{Username}\Rstup.exe ← use to delete the autorun
  • C:\Users\{Username}\removefile.exe ← use to remove killua.exe

Autostart Technique

This Ransomware adds the following registry entries to enable its automatic execution at every system startup:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
killua = C:\Users\{Username}\killua.exe

Other Details

This Ransomware does the following:

  • Displays the following lockscreen:

  • Requires the password KUrdS12@!# to unlock
  • After successfully unlocking, deletes files added and registry changes made
  • Execute the following command:
    • taskkill /F /IM explorer.exe

NOTES:
Does not encrypt files.
