This spyware monitors the Internet traffic of the affected system to check if the user accesses URLs with strings related to online banking.

It redirects the traffic to a remote site if any of its monitored strings are detected. As a result, banking credentials may be stolen by the attacker.

This spyware may be hosted on a website and run when a user accesses the said website. It may be downloaded from remote sites by other malware.

Step 1

For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

Step 2

Remove malware files dropped/downloaded by JS_BANKER.SMEV

     TROJ_BANLOAD.AXM

Step 3

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as JS_BANKER.SMEV. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
