Installation
This worm drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:
- %System%\trksvr.exe
(Note: %System% is the Windows system folder, where it usually is C:\Windows\System32 on all Windows operating system versions.)
Autostart Technique
This worm registers itself as a system service to ensure its automatic execution at every system startup by adding the following registry entries:

Dropping Routine
This worm drops the following files:
- %System%\{random file name}.exe - detected by Trend Micro as TROJ_WIPMBR.DAM
- %System%\netinit.exe - detected by Trend Micro as TROJ_DISTTRACK.DAM
(Note: %System% is the Windows system folder, where it usually is C:\Windows\System32 on all Windows operating system versions.)
It executes the dropped file(s). As a result, malicious routines of the dropped files are exhibited on the affected system.

Step 1
Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.
Step 2
Remove malware/grayware files dropped/downloaded by WORM_DISTTRACK.B. (Note: Please skip this step if the threats listed below have already been removed.)
Step 3
Restart in Safe Mode
Step 4
Delete this registry key

Restart in normal mode and scan your computer with your Trend Micro product for files detected as WORM_DISTTRACK.B.
