This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
Autostart Technique
This Trojan adds the following registry entries to enable its automatic execution at every system startup:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Adobe_Reader = "%Program Files%\adobe\acrotray.exe"
Other System Modifications
This Trojan modifies the following files:
- %Program Files%\common files\adobe\arm\1.0\adobearm.exe
(Note: %Program Files% is the default Program Files folder, usually C:\Program Files.)
Dropping Routine
This Trojan drops the following files:
- %Program Files%\adobe\reader 10.0\reader\reader_sl.exe
- %System Root%\cwsandbox_manager\restart_run\run.bat
- %Program Files%\adobe\acrotray.exe
(Note: %Program Files% is the default Program Files folder, usually C:\Program Files.. %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.)

Step 1
For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

Delete this registry value

Search and delete these files

Restart in normal mode and scan your computer with your Trend Micro product for files detected as TROJ_UNRUY.SMS.
