This backdoor arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
Installation
This backdoor drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:
- ~/.config/.system-firewall/system-firewall.{bot key}.config
Backdoor Routine
This backdoor connects to the following URL(s) to send and receive commands from a remote malicious user:
- Uninstall itself
- Download and execute arbitrary files
- Start remote shell
- Update itself
NOTES:
It has form grabbing capability to capture web form data on the following browsers:
- Chrome
- Chromium
- Firefox
It can block users to access specific sites.
It may terminate the following by executing a "killall" command
- p0stfix
- unixd
- unix-daemon
It may terminate itself if the following application is running on the affected system:
- wireshark
