Arrival Details
This file infector arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
Installation
This file infector drops the following files:
- %System%\d9dx.dll - copy of itself
- %System%\d3d8xof.dll - malicious component also detected as PE_RECTIX.A-O
(Note: %System% is the Windows system folder, which is usually C:\Windows\System on Windows 98 and ME, C:\WINNT\System32 on Windows NT and 2000, or C:\Windows\System32 on Windows XP and Server 2003.)
It injects itself into the following processes running in the affected system's memory:
- explorer.exe
It adds the following mutexes to ensure that only one of its copies runs at any one time:
- ACPI#PNPDODO#1#Amd_DL5
- __DL_CORE5_MUTEX__
- __DL5XYEX__

Step 1
For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.
Step 3
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product and note files detected as PE_RECTIX.A-O
Step 4
Restart in Safe Mode
Step 5
Delete this registry value
