Download Routine

This Trojan accesses the following websites to download files:

  • http://tamarer.com/client1.exe - TROJ_FAKEAV.SMIE

It saves the files it downloads using the following names:

  • %Temp%\_ex-68.exe

(Note: %Temp% is the Windows Temporary folder, which is usually C:\Windows\Temp.)

It then executes the downloaded files. As a result, malicious routines of the downloaded files are exhibited on the affected system.

Step 1

Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.

Step 2

Remove the malware/grayware file dropped/downloaded by TROJ_FAKEAV.SMIF

    • TROJ_FAKEAV.SMIE

Step 3

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as TROJ_FAKEAV.SMIF.
