Trend Micro Announces Appointment of Internet Outsourcing Services Division President and Core Business Division President

Tokyo, October 29, 1999 - In a move to further define the strategic goals of Trend Micro, Inc. (NASDAQ: TMIC, Japan OTC: 4704), Trend Micro's chairman and CEO, Steve Chang, today announced that Trend Micro’s business has now been divided into two major divisions, the Core Business Division which focuses on channel sales and the Internet Outsourcing Services (IOS) Division created to establish Trend Micro’s Internet outsourcing services. Eva Chen, CTO, was appointed as president of the Internet Outsourcing Services Division and Andrew Lai, COO, was appointed as president of the Core Business Division. Both appointments became effective on October 28, 1999.
 

Promotion of Eva Chen

As president of Trend Micro's Internet Outsourcing Services (IOS) Division, Chen will be in charge of developing and leading Trend Micro's Internet Outsourcing Services. Chen will report directly to Trend Micro’s chairman and CEO, Steve Chang.

In making the announcement, Chang said, "Eva is an outstanding strategic thinker. She can recognize future trends and completely understands what the customer wants. I have full confidence that she will drive our IOS Division as we seek to become the backbone of Internet providers."

Based in Trend Micro's North American headquarters in Cupertino, California, Chen, co-founder of Trend Micro, has served as Chief Technology Officer since 1996. As CTO, Chen is also responsible for overall product planning and technology direction.

Chen is a member of Trend Micro's board of directors.
 

Promotion of Andrew Lai

As president of the Core Business Division, Lai, who holds the position of COO, will also report directly to Steve Chang. Lai will be in charge of Trend Micro's core business, including the fast-growing network of international offices and sales channels.

In making his announcement Chang said, "Andrew has played a key role in developing our sales channel and expanding our international reach. He is an astute business leader and instrumental in the revenue growth Trend has experienced during the last four years. As president of our Core Business Division he will be a crucial factor in maintaining the momentum of our revenue stream."

Lai has previously spent 10 years as Asian Pacific region director with Novell.

Lai is also a member of Trend Micro's board of directors and is based in Trend Micro's North American headquarters in Cupertino, California.
