Trading in Trend Micro Stock Temporarily Suspended on Japan OTC Market

Tokyo, Japan - October 7, 1999 - The Japanese over-the-counter market suspended trading in shares of Trend Micro Incorporated (Nasdaq: TMIC, Japan OTC: 4704) for the Thursday, October 7, 1999 trading day. Trading was suspended following reports in the Japanese press of an alliance between Trend Micro and MCI WORLDCOM (Nasdaq: WCOM). Trend Micro today issued a press release regarding a managed service provider agreement that Trend Micro has entered into with UUNET Technologies, Inc., MCI WORLDCOM’s Internet services division.

The UUNET agreement is the most recent in a series of agreements which Trend Micro has concluded in recent weeks to enable leading telecom and other managed service providers to offer Trend Micro’s antivirus security services to their customers. Based on discussions today with the Japan Securities Dealers Association, which oversees the Japanese OTC market, Trend Micro understands that the trading of Trend Micro’s shares on the OTC market will commence as regularly scheduled at the open of trading on Friday, October 8 (Tokyo time).
