This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
NOTES:
It reads the password file (/etc/passwd) of a server running a UNIX or Unix-like systems.
It exploits the following vulnerability to execute shell commands on a remote server specified in its command line:
Upon successfully exploiting this vulnerability, the following shell command is executed in the remote server to list the contents of the password file:
- a=`/bin/cat /etc/passwd`;echo "a: $a"
If the password file contains "root" or "bin/bash", it displays the following message:
- target possible have bug under is *nix passwd file{the actual contents of the password file)
If the password file neither contains "root" nor "bin/bash", it displays the following message instead:
- possible dont have bug! or have a waf!
SOLUTION
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as TROJ_PYSHELL.B. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
