This worm arrives via removable drives.

It adds registry entries to enable its automatic execution at every system startup.

It drops copies of itself into all the removable drives connected to an affected system. It drops an AUTORUN.INF file to automatically execute the copies it drops when a user accesses the drives of an affected system.

It connects to a website to send and receive information.

Installation

This worm drops the following non-malicious files:

  • %System Root%\OGa\RD\DesKTop.ini

(Note: %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.)

It drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:

  • %System Root%\OGa\RD\GOx.exe

(Note: %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.)

It creates the following folders:

  • %System Root%\OGa
  • %System Root%\OGa\RD

(Note: %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.)

It injects codes into the following process(es):

  • EXPLORER.EXE

It drops an AUTORUN.INF file to automatically execute the copies it drops when a user accesses the drives of an affected system.

The said .INF file contains the following strings:

    Step 6

    Restart in normal mode and scan your computer with your Trend Micro product for files detected as WORM_IRCBOT.ODH If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required.
