This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.
Installation
This Trojan drops and executes the following files:
- /tmp/.mysqli/in -> detected as Trojan.SH.MALXMR.BPK
It adds the following processes:
- pkill -f 'mysqli_{username} -i'
- pkill -f 'mysqlc_{username} -i'
Other System Modifications
This Trojan deletes the following files:
- /tmp/mysqli.tar.gz -> older version of the malware
It deletes the following folders:
- /tmp/.mysqli -> older version of the malware
Download Routine
This Trojan connects to the following URL(s) to download its component file(s):
- http://m.{BLOCKED}store.com/images/qrcode/1414297571.jpg
It saves the files it downloads using the following names:
- /tmp/mysqli.tar.gz
Other Details
This Trojan does the following:
- The downloaded file (/tmp/mysqli.tar.gz) is extracted to drop a folder named /tmp/.mysqli, containing all the component files of the malware.
SOLUTION
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as Trojan.SH.SQUELL.CC. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
