safe mode

Safe mode is a software or operating system mode where most fixes are done. It is a diagnostic mode. Some malware require removal in this mode.

For Windows operating systems, you may follow these steps depending on the operating system installed on your computer:

• On Windows XP

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) routine is done. If the Windows Advanced Options menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen is displayed.
  3. Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options menu then press Enter.

• On Windows Server 2003

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Press F8 after Windows starts up. If the Windows Advanced Options menu does not appear, try restarting again and then pressing F8 several times after restarting.
  3. On the Windows Advanced Option menu, use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode option, and then press Enter.

• On Windows Vista and Windows 7

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) routine is done. If the Advanced Boot Options menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen is displayed.
  3. On the Advanced Boot Options menu, use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode option, and then press Enter.
