The view from the UK
Here in the UK, we are proud to be a part of this global network. A growing team of local Trenders has in the past few years supported primary and secondary schools in the Paddington Basin close to our HQ. This includes delivering sessions and workshops as part of our Cyber Academy program for 7–10-year-olds. Presenting to classrooms of over 30 kids can be a daunting experience, but our volunteers have done a fantastic job creating a space to hear, support and encourage those students to learn more about internet safety.
Projects still in the pipeline include building even closer partnerships here in the UK with global charity Childnet. Our work continues because we love what we do.
Here’s to the next 15
To understand what kids are going through today, you need to put yourself in their shoes. That’s why I’ve taken time out to volunteer as a secondary school language assistant, and last year gained my GCSE in English. When I speak to these kids, and they ask me what it’s like to work in tech, I always tell them cybersecurity is a cool career to aspire to.
Finally, a very special thank you to Lynette Owens and Avril Ronan for creating such an amazing programme. Every year it continues to grow, reaching many more worldwide, and making the internet a safer place to be, one person at a time.
So congratulations on turning 15 ISKF, and here’s to the next 15 years!
