Working in cybersecurity means signing up for a world of constant innovation at a bewildering pace, whether from ourselves or our adversaries. It turns out that the world of Formula E is exactly the same, but here, the adversaries are the other competing teams rather than cybercriminals. Under the watchful eye and insightful questions of our host, Finola Roycroft, I sat down with McLaren Racing’s Director of Business Technology, Dan Keyworth. We discussed how both our industries tackle this challenge and were surprised at just how closely our answers aligned.
Over the course of our partnership with the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team, both sides have come to appreciate just how much these similarities can transform into synergies and learning opportunities. In both industries, seconds matter—milliseconds even. We have to adapt at a lightning speed in a sea of data, whether it’s coming from a car or a security platform. To make matters even more complicated, we’re both in a constant battle with adversaries who seek to exploit emerging technologies before we can get in front of them. This includes the most significant change in any industry for decades: AI.
During my chat with Dan, we were able to compare notes on the challenges we need to overcome. We made sure to emphasise the importance of fostering a “no blame” organisational culture that encourages constant experimentation. Most importantly, we discussed the ongoing tussle for the lead with our adversaries in this relentless "cat and mouse" game in which we both find ourselves. Leading is not the same as winning; what truly matters is who is in the lead at that critical moment. Whether it's while a cybercriminal’s main attack unfolds or crossing the finish line in Formula E, timing is everything.
I invite you to watch the highlights of our conversation. You'll gain insights into transforming challenges into strategic advantages through clear communication and collaboration, found in the most unexpected areas.
