Motor racing has always been a particular passion of mine—the cars, the speed, the adrenaline, and the battles on the track between highly competitive drivers and teams that are driven to succeed. It’s one of the many reasons I’ve enjoyed the partnership between Trend Micro and the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team—two organisations with a passion for success. Recently, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, to talk a bit about competition. More importantly, we had the opportunity to explore the concept of success against the backdrop of our two very distinct, yet highly successful organisations.
Zak and I are both focused on achieving results, as success is a top priority to us and to our organisations. It was interesting to see what this means to each of us—how we define success and aspects are crucial in our journey to achieve it.
Our conversation quickly transitioned from our notion of personal achievements into a discussion of organisational accomplishments. We explored how we build and maintain a success-driven organisation, navigating the ups and downs while accepting that mistakes will inevitably occur and recognising the importance of learning from those mistakes.
As moderator, Finola Roycroft guided our conversation as we talked about the value of sharing a common vision of trust, and accountability. I’ve included the highlights from our conversation, as it illuminates just how crucial it is for leaders to guide their organisation in the right direction—be it in motor racing or cybersecurity.
