An inspiring tale of risk and resilience
Cybersecurity is often described in militaristic language. Defenders and attackers line up against each other on the front line, engaged in a cyber “arms race” and continuous battle for supremacy. Yet fortunately, few of us have actually participated in physical conflict. That makes Ben Gallagher’s story stand out.

The veteran, athlete and explorer will be rounding off Trend’s Risk to Resilience World Tour stop in London in September with a true tale of heroism, determination and triumph over adversity.
Bouncing back
Ben joined the British army at the age of just 17, serving his country for the following 16 years in various deployments across the globe. In 2019 his world was turned upside down after a serious incident, in which he was shot multiple times and suffered blast injuries to both arms and upper body. A long period of mental and physical rehabilitation followed. During this difficult time, Ben underwent therapy for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, suffered the loss of his grandfather, and had to cope with the stress of a divorce which led to months without access to his children.
But at this tremendously challenging time, Ben dug deep and found the strength, resilience and determination to push on. Rather than get dragged under by negativity and ill health, he bounced back, regained his fitness and drive, and went on to be an inspiration to others. Ben has since represented Great Britain at the Invictus Games and kayaked 1,400kms as part of a Kayak 4 Heroes team which travelled the length of the country in just 26 days.
At the show
We’re delighted to welcome Ben back after he wowed all of us at a recent Trend Micro sales kick off. He will be rounding off our Risk to Resilience World Tour date in London in September, with a presentation that draws on his experiences. He will share that tale of recovery from complex trauma, managing mental illness and how adaptive training helped him bounce back from serious injury. It will be a truly inspiring session—reminding attendees never to let circumstances limit their ambition.
