Capture the Flag (CTF) competitions are a popular feature of the cybersecurity landscape – helping ambitious security professionals and enthusiasts to demonstrate their skills to a wider audience. But they can also be used internally, to help security teams get familiar with new products in a fun and engaging environment.
That’s what Trend Micro customer Greencore found when it recently participated in one of our CTF sessions.
Gaining confidence
The Dublin-based food company recently invested in Trend Micro Vision One to take its threat hunting and investigation capabilities beyond traditional XDR. But it wanted the entire security team – including engineers, support staff and the C-level – to gain more confidence and understanding of the platform. Our CTF was the ideal way to deliver more insight and transfer knowledge to the customer in an engaging format. The firm now feels ready to use the technology in a more advanced and structured way throughout the business. It’s already requested a second CTF session.
Craig Hays, Security Architect from Greencore, who attended the event said: “Thank you so much for the fantastic CTF session yesterday. This was by far the best training exercise I’ve ever participated in from a security solutions vendor. The feedback from everyone I’ve spoken to has been very positive and the whole session was very enjoyable and informative.
While the environment that generated the alerts is a lab environment, all the alerts in the platform are real and the investigation and attack mapping plays out just like a real attack in any company network. As for delivery of the session, you were all amazing. Can’t thank you enough.”
The CTF difference
These events are a unique way for customers to learn new security concepts and gain new skills – immersing participants in the tactics used by threat actors to carry out targeted attacks; including spear-phishing, drive-by-downloads, fileless payloads, persistence and more. Accessible to anyone with an internet-connected computer, they last just a few hours.
Our Trend Micro engineering team is ready to help you get to grips with threat detection and response – and improve your organisation’s cybersecurity posture in the process.
