Installation
This Trojan drops and executes the following files:
- %Temp%\adobeacd-update.bat - detected as BAT_LOADR.FKUPS
(Note: %Temp% is the Windows temporary folder, where it usually is C:\Windows\Temp on all Windows operating system versions.)
Dropping Routine
This Trojan drops the following files:
- %Temp%\adobeacd-update.vbs - detected as VBS_LOADR.FKUPS
- %Temp%\adobeacd-update.ps1 - detected as VBS_DLOADR.FKUPS
(Note: %Temp% is the Windows temporary folder, where it usually is C:\Windows\Temp on all Windows operating system versions.)

Step 1
Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.
Step 2
Remove the malware/grayware file dropped/downloaded by W97M_FAKEUPS.A. (Note: Please skip this step if the threat(s) listed below have already been removed.)
- BAT_LOADR.FKUPS
- VBS_LOADR.FKUPS
- VBS_DLOADR.FKUPS
Step 3
Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as W97M_FAKEUPS.A. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
