This backdoor arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

It does not have any propagation routine.

It sends the information it gathers to remote users via HTTP Post.

It terminates itself if it detects it is being run in a virtual environment.

This backdoor arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

Installation

This backdoor drops the following files:

  • %User Temp%\ch.gif
  • %User Temp%\channel.js
  • %User Temp%\lamtomeajnkea1321
  • %User Temp%\{random}\embryulcia.dll -> deleted afterwards detected as BKDR_INJECTO.ERO
  • %User Temp%\readme.txt

(Note: %User Temp% is the user's temporary folder, where it usually is C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP (32- and 64-bit); C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\Temp on Windows Vista (32- and 64-bit), Windows 7 (32- and 64-bit), Windows 8 (32- and 64-bit), Windows 8.1 (32- and 64-bit), Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2012.)

It drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:

  • %AppDataLocal\LolClient\LolCache.exe

It adds the following processes:

  • svchost.exe
    or
  • explorer.exe

It creates the following folders:

  • %AppDataLocal\LolClient
  • %AppDataLocal\LolClient\mod

It adds the following mutexes to ensure that only one of its copies runs at any one time:

It injects codes into the following process(es):

It terminates itself if it finds the following processes in the affected system's memory:

  • ollydbg.exe
  • wireshark.exe
  • smsniff.exe

This backdoor executes the following commands from a remote malicious user:

It connects to the following websites to send and receive information:

  • http://{BLOCKED}jala.website:1337/1337/access.php
  • http://{BLOCKED}nn.com:1337/1337/access.php

This backdoor saves the files it downloads using the following names:

  • %User Temp%\{random filename}

(Note: %User Temp% is the user's temporary folder, where it usually is C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP (32- and 64-bit); C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\Temp on Windows Vista (32- and 64-bit), Windows 7 (32- and 64-bit), Windows 8 (32- and 64-bit), Windows 8.1 (32- and 64-bit), Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2012.)

Information Theft

This backdoor gathers the following information on the affected computer:

  • OS Bit Version
  • If running as administrator

This backdoor sends the information it gathers to remote users via HTTP Post.

Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.
