This Trojan may be unknowingly downloaded by a user while visiting malicious websites.

Installation

This Trojan drops the following files:

  • %User Temp%\ld_done1

(Note: %User Temp% is the current user's Temp folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003.)

It uses common file icons to trick a user into thinking that the files are legitimate.

It adds the following mutexes to ensure that only one of its copies runs at any one time:

  • lh48H1mksHs

It connects to the following malicious URL to send encrypted system information and to download other files:

It also checks the date and time by accessing the following non-malicious URLs:

When a connection to the above-mentioned malicious URL is established, it listens to TCP port 10100 to possibly download other files onto the system. However, the URL currently does not respond properly.

Step 1

For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

Step 2

Identify and terminate files detected as TROJ_DLOAD.KKN

  1. If the detected file is displayed in either Windows Task Manager or Process Explorer but you cannot delete it, restart your computer in safe mode. To do this, refer to this link for the complete steps.
  2. If the detected file is not displayed in either Windows Task Manager or Process Explorer, continue doing the next steps.

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as TROJ_DLOAD.KKN.
