NOTES:

It searches for the following components which are also dropped by TROJ_MDROP.TPC:

  • %Application Data%\Active\IconCacheBt.DAT
  • %Application Data%\Active\IconCacheEt.DAT

The aforementioned files are detected by Trend Micro as BKDR_AGENT.TPB.

If found, it copies and loads these .DAT files as %User Temp%\{malware filename}.Dll.

As a result, malicious routines of the loaded file(s) are also exhibited on the affected system.

Step 1

Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.

Step 2

Remove the malware/grayware file that dropped/downloaded TROJ_MDROP.TPB

    TROJ_MDROP.TPC

Step 3

Remove the malware/grayware file dropped/downloaded by TROJ_MDROP.TPB

    BKDR_AGENT.TPB

Step 4

Identify and terminate files detected as TROJ_MDROP.TPB

  1. Windows Task Manager may not display all running processes. In this case, please use a third-party process viewer, preferably Process Explorer, to terminate the malware/grayware/spyware file. You may download the said tool here.
  2. If the detected file is displayed in either Windows Task Manager or Process Explorer but you cannot delete it, restart your computer in safe mode. To do this, refer to this link for the complete steps.
