Fast-track your career in IT security
There’s never been a better time to launch a career in IT Security. Cybersecurity threats are on the rise, yet there’s a shortage of 3 million cybersecurity professionals around the globe. Tremendous opportunities await passionate young talent entering this field. Roles span software development, sales, support, and professional services.
The Trend Micro Next-Gen Cyber Defenders program (formerly Certificate Program in IT Security) reflects our commitment to closing the cybersecurity skills gap and increasing diversity in our industry. Trainees undergo a free 10-week program focusing on the soft and hard skills required to succeed in the field. Participants earn industry-recognized certificates, and a number of them are offered employment opportunities with Trend.
Over the last 6 years, more than 500 young Next-Gen Cyber Defenders have embarked on a wide range of information security careers in Australia, Brazil, India, the U.S., the Middle East, and Africa.
The program is an intensive full-time experience, which blends collaborative, independent, and virtual classroom study. Led by instructors from Trend’s global network of experts and educators, the course modules explore cybersecurity threats, trends, and solutions, and offer hands-on learning in cloud computing, security operations, endpoint, and server protection. Oral and written tests combined with practical exercises encourage trainees to develop both the technical and the soft skills critical for success in the field.
Participants gain a solid understanding of the cybersecurity industry, its various career pathways, and how our industry-leading solutions, unique culture, and history make us a success.
Classes operate Sunday–Thursday, from early June until mid-August with a holiday break during Eid al-Adha. As a virtual program, this edition of the Next-Gen Cyber Defenders program will require reliable internet connectivity. Participants receive a bursary for the duration of the training program.
Upon successful graduation, trainees are awarded a certificate to accompany the industry-recognized product and cloud computing certificates they earned during the program. Trend also extends job offers to a number of graduates.
Is the program for you?
If you’re passionate about technology, eager to learn new things, and ready to develop your cybersecurity skills, we want to hear from you.
Successful candidates will have graduated within the last 4 years with a bachelor’s degree in an ICT-related field.
Exceptional candidates without such a degree may apply but must demonstrate equivalent experience or training. Applicants will need solid working knowledge of networking and associated concepts: client/server architecture, IP addressing and subnetting, routing tables, TCP/IP, and OSI models and protocols. Proficiency with basic Linux commands is required.
While prior knowledge of cybersecurity tools is not needed, candidates will benefit from familiarity with key concepts, such as malware, vulnerabilities, firewalls, ransomware, and phishing.
Committed to closing the cybersecurity gender gap, we strongly encourage applications from women.
