CHALLENGES
Since the company provides customers with the backbone required to sell digital tickets, their technology platform must be highly reliable and secure to prevent ransomware and other types of malicious attacks. Ticketing bots—which are used to purchase tickets automatically, drive up demand, and force ticket buyers to purchase from a secondary market—are one of their primary security challenges.
“In addition to the bots, we get hacking attempts, such as the scanning of our IP addresses and ports over the internet,” says a representative for the software provider. “We are constantly getting scanned for vulnerabilities.”
The geofencing in TippingPoint allows us to block traffic from certain sources to help us keep ticketing bots from disrupting our business.

WHY TREND
Trend TippingPoint™ has been the company’s primary security solution for years. Despite having evaluated other intrusion prevention system (IPS) options, they decided to stay with Trend. “We were happy with TippingPoint. Trend Micro is one of the leaders in intrusion prevention, and TippingPoint had what we needed,” they note.
The long-term partnership with Trend is maintained through the care and consideration of Trenders. “I’ve worked with the same Trend account team for years. Having them there gives me a good feeling that if there’s ever any issues, we can call them, and they will help us out,” a representative from the company adds. “Trend is open to hearing our needs and working with us—having that personal relationship means a lot.”
SOLUTION
TippingPoint grants this software provider comprehensive threat protection including geofencing to help block bots initiated from foreign countries. “Ninety-five percent of our business comes from North America, but because we are a ticketing company, we receive traffic from all over the world,” says their representative. “We do not expect consumers coming from foreign countries to attend [...] events. The geofencing in TippingPoint allows us to block traffic from certain sources to help us keep ticketing bots from disrupting our business.”
Meanwhile, the secure sockets layer (SSL) inspection capabilities of TippingPoint enable end-to-end encryption from customer browsers to company servers. “TippingPoint acts as an intermediary between our clients and our servers,” they add. “As soon as we enable the TippingPoint SSL inspection, it assures us that if anybody is attacking us over the encrypted channel, we have a protection layer that can decipher those attacks and act on them.”
RESULTS
In addition to the bot-blocking capability of the geofencing feature in TippingPoint, the solution’s SSL inspection feature helps the company increase its confidence and security posture. “TippingPoint gives us the comfort and confidence that it’s doing what it needs to do,” they note. “And if we need additional details, we can log into the security management system interface, run reports, see what’s being blocked and where it’s coming from, and find out what’s going on.”
Along with this, great value is placed on Trend™ Research and ongoing solution innovations, which continue to help this software provider combat evolving threats. “[Trend Micro™ Zero Day Initiative™ (ZDI)] threat research gives us a good feeling that the company is looking for the latest threats to help protect our network and keep us safe,” says their representative.
Ultimately, Trend gives security leaders confidence that they can stay secure and deliver valuable services to their clients and end customers.
WHAT'S NEXT
The company will continue to rely on Trend for security support. As they plan to continue moving their ticketing application to the cloud in 2024, they’re looking forward to learning more about how TippingPoint can protect their assets in the cloud—and a proof of concept for Trend Vision One™ will be part of that effort.
