Trend Micro Bolsters Pacific Commitment as Regional Cyber Landscape Shifts

Cybersecurity leader ramps up local partnerships, skills development and government collaboration in response to growing risk landscape

Sydney, July 9, 2025Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704; TSE: 4704), a global cybersecurity leader, is cementing its commitment to the Pacific Islands, building on strong public sector partnerships and rising demand for cyber resilience. The announcement follows the company’s inaugural World Tour event in Suva, Fiji, where senior officials from various business sectors including government recognised Trend Micro’s ongoing work to strengthen the region’s digital defences.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Trend Micro team for bringing this important event to Fiji – an event that has traditionally been held abroad,” said Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communications, Mr. Manoa Kamikamica, at the World Tour event in May this year.

“Events such as this are more than just conferences. They are platforms that bridge the gap between Government, Industry, and the Private Sector,” Mr. Kamikamica continued. “I strongly believe that such public-private partnerships and collaboration are essential to designing sustainable, resilient and robust digital solutions for Fiji and the Pacific.”

The acknowledgement comes as Trend Micro deepens ties with industry and governments across the Pacific Islands following a period of rapid growth that has seen the cybersecurity leader expand its business revenue in the region by 150% over the past three years.

Rising risk driving action

According to Trend Micro’s 2025 Cyber Risk Index (CRI), organisations across the Asia-Pacific region continue to face medium-level cyber risk, with unsecure assets, fragmented infrastructure, and persistent skills shortages remaining critical challenges. In response, governments are introducing national cybersecurity strategies, cloud and data governance policies, and stepping up institutional investment to strengthen resilience.

These developments, combined with the growth of the digital economy in the region, have catalysed new momentum across the Pacific. Pacific governments are responding with dedicated cybersecurity strategies, the formation of national computer emergency response teams (CERTs), and by developing policies around AI governance, privacy, and cloud adoption.

“We’re partnering with national leaders, local enterprises, and industry stakeholders to strengthen the region’s ability to detect, defend, and respond,” said Srujan Talakokkula, Managing Director, Trend Micro – Australia, New Zealand & Pacific Islands. “Our regional growth and partnerships reflect this evolving environment: increasing demand, deeper public-private alignment, and rising recognition that cyber readiness is core to economic development.”

Expanding local presence and regional ecosystem strength

As Pacific governments and industries adapt to the shifting cyber threat landscape, Trend Micro has been on the front foot to prepare businesses and public sector organisations alike to thrive in the new, evolving, era of cybersecurity – one that is accelerating with the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI), increasing cloud reliance, and the expanding digital footprint of essential services.

Having already seen strong growth, Trend Micro anticipates further expansion, with regional momentum expected to triple by mid-2027. This is being driven by increased investment, modernised digital infrastructure, and greater demand for strategic, long-term security partnerships.

Trend Micro’s Pacific Islands engagement is built around sustained local delivery and capability development, including:

  • A dedicated Fiji-facing team, including account managers, engineers, and partner managers delivering in-market support.
  • Deep collaborations with key local partners: Virtuaflex Fiji, Datec Fiji, Vodafone Fij.
  • Regular technical workshops, partner enablement sessions, and support for government-led digital infrastructure projects.

To help address the regional cybersecurity skills gap, Trend Micro is delivering targeted training and experiential learning opportunities. In July 2025, the company will host Capture the Flag (CTF) competitions in nine Pacific locations, including Suva on July 24. These gamified events teach real-world hacking techniques and defensive strategies in a hands-on, accessible format for students, professionals, and practitioners.

Trusted by local industry

Trend Micro’s rapid expansion and continued investment in the region have been underpinned by strengthening ties with both government and enterprise leaders – particularly in sectors where cyber resilience and readiness are critical.

“Trend Micro has been our strongest security partner for more than five years, with a strong focus on us as the customer,” said Deepak Singh, Manager – IT Services, Vinod Patel. “The collaboration has enabled us to stay ahead of the curve and continuously explore how we can enhance IT security. Their responsiveness and customer-centric mindset are always top notch.”

“Partnering with Trend Micro has transformed our cybersecurity operations,” added Zainal Rahiman, Cyber Information Security Officer, Taukei Land Trust Board (TLTB). “Trend Vision One’s seamless integration and real-time visibility enable us to protect our growing digital infrastructure in hours, not days. Its all-in-one platform simplifies endpoint protection, vulnerability management, and risk reporting—empowering our team to stay ahead of threats effortlessly.”

Looking ahead

Trend Micro’s momentum across the Pacific Islands reflects its broader Asia-Pacific strategy to embed cybersecurity at the core of digital transformation. As nations like Fiji deliver on the ambitions of their National Digital Strategy 2025-2030, the role of proactive, scalable security – and trusted partners – will only grow.

“The Pacific is showing what’s possible when leadership, policy, and partnership come together,” said Mr. Talakokkula. “We’re proud to be part of the journey – investing not just in technology, but in long-term regional resilience.

“We’re deeply committed to helping our partners across Fiji, PNG, Vanuatu, Tonga and beyond to unlock the full potential of secure digital development, whether that’s through expanding our regional channel ecosystem, nurturing local cybersecurity talent, or strengthening intelligence-sharing across the Pacific,” Mr. Talakokkula finished.
