This Trojan arrives by connecting affected removable drives to a system. It arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

It drops copies of itself in all removable drives.

Arrival Details

This Trojan arrives by connecting affected removable drives to a system.

It arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

Installation

This Trojan drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:

  • %System%\FAantivirus.vbs

(Note: %System% is the Windows system folder, which is usually C:\Windows\System on Windows 98 and ME, C:\WINNT\System32 on Windows NT and 2000, or C:\Windows\System32 on Windows XP and Server 2003.)

It drops the following component file(s):

  • {DRIVE}:\autorun.inf - detected as VBS_AUTORUN.FEG

It stays memory-resident by injecting codes into the following processes:

  • wscript.exe

Autostart Technique

This Trojan modifies the following registry entries to ensure it automatic execution at every system startup:

Propagation

This Trojan drops copies of itself in all removable drives.

NOTES:
The deleted files are the usual malware names used by other malware when dropping in the system. This malware deletes other malware in the affected system.
