Capillary Technologies

Optimizes security and visibility for its AWS and Azure cloud environments

Overview

Capillary’s technology products (Insights+, Engage+, Anywhere Commerce+ and Loyalty+) help brands get ahead of the digital evolution and to stay consumer-ready. With over 300 million consumers and 25,000 stores on the platform, Capillary is Asia’s leading Software as a Service (SaaS) product company. Founded in 2008, Capillary Technologies has been recognized by Gartner, Fortune, Forbes, TechCrunch, and Harvard Business Review.

Challenges

As a leading provider of consumer analytics and ecommerce platforms to more than 300 brands in more than 30 countries, Capillary Technologies was looking for a security solution that can scale with the growing infrastructure and help to achieve compliance for the Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft® Azure™ cloud environments. The solution also needed to protect cloud workloads against data breaches and business disruptions with around-the-clock alerting.

Why Trend Micro

After assessing various security solutions, Capillary Technologies selected Trend Micro™ Deep Security™ enterprise to support the multi-cloud environments. With its multitenant architecture, Deep Security met the requirements of interoperability with AWS® and Microsoft® Azure™ Cloud environments.

Deep Security includes a dashboard that fulfills the requirement for simplified and centralized management with a single view into security operations. The addition of virtual patching, which isolates vulnerabilities before they can be exploited, was another significant feature. The Deep Security solution also helped to fulfill the prerequisite of meeting compliance requirements with Payment Card Industry (PCI) security standards. Overall, Deep Security was the high-performance, state-of-the-art security solution they were looking for.

Solution

The implementation of Deep Security and all its capabilities — including antimalware, web reputation, firewall, intrusion prevention, integrity monitoring, and log inspection — was implemented in two weeks.

Deep Security provides comprehensive security in one solution. Built specifically to secure virtualized and cloud environments, the solution ensures that there are no security gaps or performance impacts for workloads in public or private clouds. With the management of multiple security controls from a single dashboard, security operations are simplified, and a significantly smaller footprint is created. The solution also demonstrates compliance with a number of regulatory requirements.

The integrated modules of Deep Security ensure data security across cloud environments, including AWS and Microsoft Azure. The antimalware module optimizes security operations and protects against sophisticated cyberattacks. The solution’s intrusion prevention module examines all incoming and outgoing traffic and automatically protects against known but unpatched vulnerabilities through virtual patching.

“We met the majority of our security needs with Deep Security. The Trend Micro solution enables us to achieve comprehensive cloud security with interoperability between our AWS and Microsoft Azure cloud platforms,” said Nayan Kalita, Director, Systems Engineering, Capillary Technologies.

By collecting and analyzing operating system and application logs, the log inspection module identifies suspicious behavior and assists with compliance. The bidirectional host-based firewall decreases the attack surface of cloud environments, prevents denial-of-service attacks, and provides logging of firewall events to enable compliance and audit reporting. The integrity monitoring module monitors critical operating system and application files to detect and report malicious and unexpected changes in real time.

"Deep Security fulfilled our requirements, provided a single view of our security posture, and achieved a higher level of security with virtual patching."

Results

The successful deployment of Deep Security enabled Capillary Technologies to achieve seamless interoperability to secure workloads on AWS and Microsoft Azure public cloud environments. The solution used a single, multifunction agent across all environments to provide a unified view of the security posture, and protected workloads on the public cloud from data breaches and business disruptions by eliminating all security gaps.

Deep Security provided vulnerability protection with virtual patching that protects against vulnerability exploits and eliminated the costs and operational pains of emergency patching, frequent patch cycles, breaches, and costly system downtime.
