This Trojan arrives on a system as a file dropped by other malware or as a file downloaded unknowingly by users when visiting malicious sites.

Installation

This Trojan drops the following files:

  • \\{BLOCKED}.{BLOCKED}.local\log${Computer Name}.txt

It adds the following processes:

  • cmd.exe /c 'C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\unins001.exe' /silent /noreboot
  • 'C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\unins000.exe' /silent /noreboot
  • "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client\Setup.exe" /x /s
  • dism /online /Disable-Feature /FeatureName:Windows-Defender /Remove /NoRestart /quiet
  • vssadmin delete shadows /all /quiet
  • wbadmin stop job
  • cmd.exe /c assoc .README=txtfile

  • Uninstalls MalwareBytes Anti-Malware
  • Disables Real-time monitoring for Windows Defender
  • Excludes .exe files from scans
  • Deletes computer restore points
  • Uninstalls Windows Defender and removes its installation package
  • Deletes shadow copies
  • Cancels backup or recovery operation
  • It performs UDP broadcast to the following IP address:
    • 255.255.255.255
  • Enables remote desktop connection
  • Change local users' passwords

It does not exploit any vulnerability.

Step 1

Before doing any scans, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.

  1. Windows Task Manager may not display all running processes. In this case, please use a third-party process viewer, preferably Process Explorer, to terminate the malware/grayware/spyware file. You may download the said tool here.
