Strengthens security posture with Trend Micro

Established in 1966, Pune-based Bharat Forge Ltd. (BFL) is a global leader in metal forming and the manufacturing of a wide range of high performance, critical and safety components. Part of the Kalyani Group, the three-billion-dollar conglomerate serves several industry sectors. From concept to product design, engineering, manufacturing, testing, and validation, BFL offers a full-service supply capability to customers from various geographical locations.

Today’s enterprises constantly face a stream of vulnerabilities, with BFL being a target of malware and ransomware attacks. This caused them to seek a robust solution for their servers and endpoints.

“One of the challenges we encountered was not being able to effectively safeguard against sophisticated attacks on our endpoints. We constantly had to resort to emergency patching that often resulted in frequent patch cycles and costly system downtime,” says Yogesh Zope, chief digital officer (Kalyani Group) and Sr VP at Bharat Forge Ltd; CEO at Kalyani Technologies Ltd.

“These issues had us seeking an effective solution for our servers and endpoints. As one of the leading forging companies in the world, we had to be sure that there were no security gaps. We wanted a cybersecurity solution that would offer advanced features like virtual patching and multiple layers of threat protection for endpoints,” explains Zope.

"With Trend Micro’s virtual patching capabilities, we are able to shield our critical systems against vulnerabilities."

Why Trend Micro

BFL needed to be sure that the security vendor they chose would be simple, but robust. Zope explained, “We chose Trend Micro’s solutions after the proof of concept (POC) demonstrated how multiple layers of anti-threat capabilities could safeguard our servers and endpoints against targeted attacks.”

“A deciding factor was that Trend Micro’s solutions could provide us with features, such as advanced threat protection, anti-malware, command and control blocking, browser exploit protection, application control, behavior monitoring, web threat protection, vulnerability protection, and more. However, what impressed us the most was the virtual patching capabilities that the solution provided,” elaborates Zope.

“Trend Micro’s global reputation, as a robust security solution, further encouraged us to choose the solution over others. We were impressed with the Endpoint Security Suite, having been ranked as a credible breach detection system by NSS Labs for two years straight and being featured regularly in highly regarded industry reports like the Gartner Magic Quadrant and the Forrester Wave™,” says Zope.

BFL implemented Trend Micro™ Deep Security™ on 200 servers and Trend Micro Apex One™ on 3,000 endpoints. Deep Security, designed to protect data centres and cloud workloads from data breaches and disruptions, features integrated modules, including anti-malware, web reputation, firewall, intrusion prevention, integrity monitoring, and log inspection.

“Deep Security has helped us simplify operations. We are now able to effectively detect, protect, and respond to modern threats across our servers. This has helped us close security gaps and protect the sensitive data,” says Zope.

Apex One’s Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) provides context-aware investigation and response, recording, and reporting of system-level activities to rapidly assess attacks across emails, endpoints, and servers.

The Trend Micro solutions on the servers and endpoints have helped BFL build a comprehensive security system to protect their servers and endpoints. “The automated detection and response has enhanced our protection against data breaches and unnecessary business disruptions. We have been able to identify potential incidents, which has helped us mitigate attacks before they compromised our servers,” says Zope. “With Trend Micro’s virtual patching capabilities, we are able to shield our critical systems against vulnerabilities.”

Trend Micro has proposed that BFL evaluate the custom sandboxing and IOT security solutions Trend Micro offers, in order to further strengthen its security posture. While custom sandboxing will improve the detection rate of advanced threats that evade standard virtual images, having the IOT security solution from Trend Micro will strengthen security for BFL’s connected infrastructure.
