L&T-Chiyoda Limited (LTC) is an internationally reputed design and engineering consultancy organization formed by Larsen & Toubro Limited—India‘s premier engineering, manufacturing, and construction company—and Chiyoda Corporation Japan—a world renowned engineering company with decades of experience in hydrocarbon and related fields. A gradual expansion of infrastructure commensurate to business growth gave rise to silos and point solutions. The business models changed in ways which were beyond the capacity of current security solutions. A comprehensive security system that provided state-of-the-art protection and business resilience became the foremost need. “The rapid change in our business model mandated use of a modern and futuristic security solution. We were looking for a solution that could provide multiple layers of security and protection by use of multiple techniques like intrusion prevention, file/URL reputation, machine learning, behavioral analysis, application control, vulnerability management, zero-day threats, and ransomware protection along with remediation without manual intervention. And the solution effectiveness should not change, just because a workload is delivered from cloud,” says Bihag Acharya, Deputy General Manager IT of L&T-Chiyoda Limited.

“LTC was looking for a security solution that offered protection to varied workloads, on-premises, and on-cloud, along with end-to-end automation. During the technical evaluation that scrutinized the solution across 50-plus parameters, we found Trend Micro matching most of our needs. As substantiated by Gartner and NSS Labs, the security effectiveness, market presence, support system and future roadmap of Trend Micro all were meeting our expectations,” says Acharya.

For LTC, the implementation of Trend Micro™ Connected Threat Defense across security solutions was the key to infallible security. “With the Trend Micro solution, this was made possible with the use of Trend Micro Apex Central, as well as the out-of-the-box API support for integration with heterogeneous security products. Trend Micro was ultimately the best solution in all the parameters that were evaluated,” explains Acharya.

Trend Micro Apex One—an advanced endpoint security solution that offers maximum protection through automated detection and response—was successfully implemented on the endpoints.

“With Trend Micro Apex One, we now have the full circle of protection with automated detection and response against a variety of threats, including fileless threats and ransomware. The vulnerability protection through virtual patching eliminates risk due to missing patches. Firewall protection for our remote and mobile enterprise endpoints is now ensured,” says Acharya.

LTC also implemented Trend Micro ScanMail Suite for IBM Domino, an on-premises secure email gateway that gives top-of-the-range protection against targeted email attacks and spear phishing.

“These solutions are integrated with third-party perimeter firewall using API and with the use of Trend Micro Apex Central, it is extremely simple and effective to monitor and act upon the security findings within the organization in a timely manner,” adds Acharya.

Trend Micro Apex One, being a lightweight endpoint solution that uses a crossgenerational blend of modern techniques, has optimized the security environment at LTC. The organization now enjoys seamless operations with the least amount of disruptions. Notes Acharya, “The seamless integration with third-party heterogeneous products and the centralized monitoring capabilities, which give us a comprehensive view of our endpoints, has provided us with the robust security levels we were seeking.”

Extremely satisfied with Trend Micro’s solutions for its endpoints and email security, LTC is looking at implementing Trend Micro™ Deep Security™ solution for its servers as well as Trend Micro™ Cloud App Security for its planned cloud based workload.

“Trend Micro’s solutions for our endpoints and email security have provided us with the necessary security reinforcements. We are currently evaluating Deep Security for our servers and Cloud App Security for our workloads delivered via Microsoft^® Azure^®, as we require a purpose-built solution that offers zero security gaps for our on-premises and cloud environments,” says Acharya.
