Qatar’s Boom Construction partners with Trend Micro to lay secure foundations for visibility, detection, and response

Company’s security transformation delivers much needed threat intelligence to better protect its digital assets and distributed workforce

21 April 2021. Doha, Qatar – Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704TSE: 4704), a global leader in cyber security solutions, today announced that Qatar’s Boom Construction Company (BCC) has successfully deployed a comprehensive cloud-based Trend Micro solution to protect the construction company’s digital estate.

Part of the Boom Group, BCC is one of Qatar’s largest construction firms and is a key player in National Vision 2030’s goals of environmental development through state-of-the-art infrastructure and mega-projects. In March 2020, amid the COVID lockdown, BCC’s head office was hit with a ransomware attack that left more than 200 users without access to business applications and emails. Downtime was not an option, so in response to the attack, BCC contacted several vendors for support, and found a trusted future partner in Trend Micro.

Trend Micro engineers on site identified the ransomware and its entry point, and offered continued support to control the damage. Boom Construction’s entire infrastructure was live and stable within 15 days – a fraction of the two months associated with similar attacks. The company estimates that seven more weeks of downtime would have costed around QAR 5.5 million (USD 1.5 million).

“We have undergone a security transformation with the implementation of Trend Micro solutions. It has saved us invaluable time and millions of dollars of avoided business downtime,” said Mohammed Ali Hosho, Senior IT manager, Boom Construction Company. “We now have full visibility and control over our IT infrastructure, and with real time threat intelligence we are able better prevent attacks, speed up investigation and response, enabling us to better protect our digital assets and workforce.”

The foundation of BCC’s security is Trend Micro XDR, which provides detection, prevention, and response across email, endpoints, servers, cloud workloads, and networks. The company has also adopted Trend Micro Apex One™ for endpoint security and USB device control, Deep Discovery Inspector for 360-degree visibility of traffic monitoring, the Smart Protection Suite, and Trend Micro Cloud One™ – Workload Security for automated workload protection.

“We have found a partner we can rely on – who can take care of our security needs, while we focus on growing our business in the digital era,” said Hosho.

“Threat actors continue to take advantage of the vulnerabilities that organizations face in the new normal. As such, multi-layered protection can empower them to better protect, detect and respond to attacks – in the cloud, across networks, and endpoints,” said Assad Arabi, Managing Director, Trend Micro Gulf Cluster. “We were pleased to be able to support BCC in its security transformation, and stand committed to assist every private and public entity in their battles against digital aggression.”
