Arrival Details

This worm arrives as an attachment to email messages spammed by other malware/grayware or malicious users.

It may arrive via network shares.

It may be downloaded by other malware/grayware/spyware from remote sites.

It may be dropped by other malware.

Installation

This worm drops the following component file(s):

  • %Windows\ lfffile32.log

It drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:

  • %Windows%\wjdrive32.exe

(Note: %Windows% is the Windows folder, which is usually C:\Windows or C:\WINNT.)

Autostart Technique

This worm adds the following registry entries to enable its automatic execution at every system startup:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\
Explorer\Run
Microsoft Driver Setup = %Windows%\wjdrive32.exe

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Microsoft Driver Setup = %Windows%\wjdrive32.exe

Propagation

This worm scans networks for random IP addresses to search for systems to target. It then attempts to drop copies of itself into the following networks the systems are attached to:

  • %Windows%\wjdrive32.exe

(Note: %Windows% is the Windows folder, which is usually C:\Windows or C:\WINNT.)

It sends messages that contain links to sites hosting remote copies of itself using the following instant-messaging (IM) applications:

  • MSN Messenger

Backdoor Routine

This worm connects to the following URL(s) to send and receive commands from a remote malicious user:

  • {BLOCKED}j.ahrampress.net

Process Termination

This worm terminates the following processes if found running in the affected system's memory:
